About The Role

Location: Basildon, Essex - client will be moving to CM4 in the New Year
Days & Hours: Various roles available -
Monday-Sunday Waking nights 8pm-8am and Monday-Friday after school 3:30pm-7:00pm, additional hours available during the holidays.  

Applications welcome for working any of the hours specified.  Night shifts may be subject to change.

Pay:  £16.00-£18.00 dependent on experience
Driver required? Essential (will need own car to get to work)
Driving Clients Car? Yes, our clients Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV), automatic
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, on duty and to attend trainings
Essential Experience: Paediatric experience, complex medical needs, PEG feeding, Epilepsy and hoisting.
Desirable: Experience using communication systems
Accommodation (while on duty): Partially adapted property which Russell shares with his parents and siblings
Interviews Week Commencing: As and when applications are received
Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)

Russell, born in 2010, lives with his parents and 3 younger brothers.  He enjoys watching TV, being outdoors, being in water and playing with sensory toys. 

Russell has Cerebral Palsy, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Epilepsy, communication and hearing difficulties.  He uses a wheelchair but can also walk a little with support. You will be working within the family home as well as taking him out to access community activities.

The role of the Support Worker is to support our client in all aspects of his care including therapy programmes, carrying out all personal care, assisting with transfers and social outings. Two carers are required for each shift to manage his moving and handling, personal care needs and monitor his epilepsy. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to join a home care team and develop existing skills.  A truly rewarding role for someone who is able to communicate effectively and an ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion.

Pay and Benefits:
£16.00-£18.00 dependent on experience
On-going training & support provided
5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
Free DBS check.

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • Experience with working with Cerebral Palsy, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Epilepsy
  • Confident and comfortable working in Russell’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of him and his family
  • Experience managing communication and behavioural challenges
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with PEG feeding and suctioning
  • Water confident to assist with hydrotherapy
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Russell's needs
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team
  • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others
  • Actively creates an inclusive environment respecting diversity
  • Good organisational skills who can adhere to standards and quality requirements
