Location: Liphook, Hampshire
Days & Hours:  Bank hours available which include days, nights and weekends.  Karl would like you to have some flexibility to cover additional hours for absences within the team.  Some shifts could be 24 hours in length to include a sleeping night.
 
Pay: 
  • Pay Rate 1: £13.53, Monday to Friday, Days, 7am – 10pm
  • Pay Rate 2: £15.29, Weekends and Bank Holiday Days, 7am – 10pm
  • Pay Rate 3: £National Living wage (currently £11.44 per hour for workers age 21 and over), sleeping Nights, 10pm – 7am
  • Pay Rate 4: £15.29, Waking Nights, 10pm – 7am
Driver required? Essential
Driving Clients Car? Yes, our clients vehicle, automatic
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, On duty and to attend trainings 
Essential: Supporting adults with complex emotional, behavioural and attachment needs. Confident with behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. 
Desirable: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy
Family: Client has a supportive family
Accommodation (while on duty): Large bungalow with staff bedroom.

Karl, born in 1969, and lives in his own home.  He enjoys being in his garden and participates in shopping, going to the gym, and family time.

You will be joining a small care team where you will be taking direction from the Case Manager to ensure that Karl receives all the care he needs. Karl sustained a brain injury in 2003, leaving him with cognitive impairment (including difficulties with his motivation, memory processing, and fatigue). He also suffers from Diabetes Insipidus for which he takes medication and requires his fluid intake to be restricted and monitored.  He currently has support workers supporting him over 7 days and 7 sleeping nights per week

The main purpose of this role is to support Karl to maximise his independence with all aspects of daily living by prompting him and giving supportive guidance to keep him safe, and to enable and promote him in pursuing leisure activities.  You will be required to work within his home and need to be prepared to assist with general household tasks including shopping, cooking, cleaning.  He is mobile with 2:1 care.

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with Acquired Brain Injury
  • Confident and comfortable working in Karl’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of him and his family
