Chad, born in 1949, is a chirpy man who was a keen fisherman and used to fish regularly, holding the stance of Chairman of a fishing club. He loved to cycle in the summer months and enjoyed watching TV and listening to the radio. He currently resides in a care home and has no family who live in the area
Chad has poor short-term memory, which affects his ability to recall what he needs to complete during the day. It could be that Chad has forgotten how to do certain activities so would really benefit from a befriender to provide companionship within the care home.
Your role would be to provide encouragement and support Chad to remain occupied. This could be to attend planned activities within the care home. Talking about different topics, reading the paper, arts and crafts, and possibly some games or cards and noting any changes in his behaviour. Your role would not be to provide any personal care as his daily living tasks are performed by the care staff.
You will be taking direction from the Case Manager to ensure that Chad receives all the companionship he needs. This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.
This is wonderful opportunity to join supportive family and friends, where you can make a real difference to Chad’s life by maximising his opportunities and promoting his independence wherever possible, a truly rewarding role for someone who is able to communicate effectively and an ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion.
