Brenda is in her 80’s and enjoys getting out and about and socialising. She has one son locally and a daughter up North, who she sees regularly. Despite sustaining a stroke, Brenda enjoys being socially active and attending concerts and the cinema. She has a passion for country music and cruises which she attends with her support staff, and a group of friends she meets for Saturday breakfast.
Brenda requires assistance with many aspects of her personal care, supervision of transfers and she requires all meals cooked. She has aphasia which causes her difficulty in communicating but she fully understands what is said to her and engages well in conversation with a sense of humour to boot. She uses a wheeled Zimmer frame to mobilise indoors and a powered wheelchair for outdoor use. Brenda can feed herself.
You will be joining a small care team where you will be taking direction from the Case Manager, Team Leader and therapists to ensure that Brenda receives all the care she needs.
This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role. The successful applicants will need to have an interest in therapy to implement strategies and follow therapy programmes devised by the therapists to assist Brenda to maintain her independence. A truly rewarding role for someone who can communicate confidently and can work with patience, understanding, warmth and compassion.
