I’m Elijah – Will You Be Part of My Team?

Hello! My name is Elijah. I’m 12 years old and live at home in Charlton and spend time in Welling with the other members of my family. I love music, sensory play, spending time with my family and going on fun outings.

I have complex medical needs: I have Cerebral Palsy (CP), epilepsy, with over 30 seizures a day, and I am non-verbal. I use a wheelchair and am PEG fed, which means I need support with all my meals. Due to these needs, I rely entirely on adults for daily tasks such as personal care, mobility, therapy and safety. I’m looking for a team of skilled, compassionate carers who can provide high-quality, person-centred care in my family home.

This is more than just a job. It’s an opportunity to make a real difference. You’ll help me get ready in the morning, support me with my therapies, manage my seizures and make sure I am comfortable, safe and happy both during the day and at night. If you are experienced, reliable and genuinely passionate about helping others, we would love to hear from you.

We have 18-month fixed-term contracts and bank hours available. Shifts include:

  • After school (3pm–9am, Monday to Friday)
  • Weekends
  • Longer hours during school holidays
  • Waking nights (you’ll need to stay awake all night to keep an eye on me)
  • Sleeping Nights

Pay

  • £17.14 per hour, Monday to Friday Days, £18.21 per hour, Saturday and Sunday Days, £18.21 per hour Monday to Friday Waking Nights, £19.28 per hour Saturday and Sunday Waking Nights (sleeping nights paid at £NLW)
  • Sleeping nights paid at £NLW (Currently £12.21 per hour for those age 21+)

Can You Drive?
It’s great if you can drive—especially my wheelchair-adapted car (it’s automatic). It also helps if you can use your own car to get to training.

Where You’ll Work
You’ll be with me in my home. We’ve made it comfy for carers too—you’ll have your own space on the top floor with a bed, kitchenette, and washing machine.

We are Supportive
You’ll be part of a small, friendly team that works closely with my mum and my Case Manager. You’ll never be on your own—we’ll support you with training, supervision, and regular check-ins so you feel confident and valued in your role.

We have Integrity
We trust our carers to be honest, respectful, and professional. You’ll be working in our home, so it’s really important that you’re someone who takes pride in doing the right thing—even when no one’s watching.

We are Client Centred
That means me! Everything we do is about helping me live a happy, safe, and fulfilling life. You’ll help me with PEG feeding, suctioning, hoisting, and all my personal care—but also with the fun stuff, like music and learning new things.

We are Quality Focussed
We want the best care possible. That’s why we offer proper training (including The Care Certificate), regular supervision, and support from a dedicated HR team. You’ll be encouraged to keep learning and improving so we can all do our best for each other.

We are Positive
I love being around people who are calm, enthusiastic, and full of energy. If you can bring a smile, a sense of humour, and a can-do attitude to your work, you’ll fit right in.

What You Need

  • Extensive Experience supporting children with complex needs
  • Experience working in a family home
  • Confident with PEG feeding, suctioning, epilepsy care, and administering medication
  • Confident working alone and with support
  • Able to follow guidance from my mum, Case Manager, and Team Leader
  • Patient, kind, and ready to help me grow

What You’ll Get

  • Ongoing training and support
  • 5.6 weeks holiday (pro rata)
  • Pension (if eligible)
  • Free DBS check
  • Induction and regular supervision
  • A warm, welcoming family environment

Interviews & Start Date
We’re interviewing on a rolling basis, so please apply soon.

Start date: ASAP, once all the checks are done.

 Safeguarding

Keeping me safe is really important. You’ll need:

  • Proof you can work in the UK
  • References (including your last job)
  • An enhanced DBS check (a conviction won’t always stop you from working with me)

If you think you’d enjoy helping me and being part of a supportive, positive team, I’d welcome your application!

Thank you! Elijah
