Location: Bexley
Days & Hours:  25.50 hours per week, Monday-Wednesday 8am-4.30pm
Bank hours are also available to cover absences of the current team.
 
Pay:  Pay Rate 1: £16.43 per hour Monday to Friday, Pay Rate 2: £18.55 per hour Weekends and Bank Holidays, Pay Rate 3: £National Living Wage (currently £12.71 per hour for workers age 21 and above) Sleeping Nights
 
Driver required? Essential
Driving Clients Car? Yes, our client's Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV), automatic
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, when on duty and to attend trainings 
Essential: Supporting adults with a Brain injury, which can sometimes display some emotional or behavioural needs. Confident with behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. 
Desirable: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy
Family Pets: Parents may visit with their dogs as Jane loves animals.
Accommodation (while on duty): Good sized double bedroom with en-suite. An additional adult sitting room can be arranged.
Interviews Week Commencing:  Telephone interviews from 13th April, potential face-to-face interviews the first week of May  at a mutual location.
Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)
 
Jane aged 20 has a tremendous sense of fun and is very engaging. She loves being around people and is very sociable, she loves music and being outside and spending time with her family and friends. 
 
Jane has an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), which has mainly affected her speech cognition and mobility she requires hoisting for all transfers, and support managing seizures although Jane's epilepsy is controlled well with medication, training will be provided.
 
As a Support Worker, you will support Jane with finishing her morning routine before accompanying her to the day centre. This includes driving her to and from the centre and providing encouragement to help promote her independence and social inclusion.
Bank shifts will include daily planning & organisation, diary management, driving, shopping, attending appointments and any general support she may require.  You will be guided by her Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Psychologist to provide Jane with a high standard of treatment intervention and monitoring.

Pay and Benefits:

  • 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata,
  • Pension (subject to qualifying status)
  • Free DBS check.

In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered:

  • On-going support from a dedicated Case Manager and HR department.

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • *Female due to providing personal care
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with Acquired Brain Injury
  • Experience with working with client's with Epilepsy.
  • Confident and comfortable working in Jane’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Jane's needs
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team
  • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others

  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice
  • A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed)

However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
