Location: Fareham, PO16

Pay:

  • £14.50 per hour – Monday to Friday, Days, 8.00am to 8.00pm
  • £15.50 per hour – Monday to Friday, Waking Nights, 8.00pm to 8.00am
  • £15.50 per hour – Weekends, Days, 8.00am to 8.00pm
  • £16.50 per hour – Weekends, Waking Nights, 8.00pm to 8.00am
  • £National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage per hour (dependent on the successful candidate's age), Monday to Sunday, Sleeping Nights, 10.00pm to 7.00am

Hours

The following shifts are available in accordance with the 2-week rolling rota - we're particularly looking for Weekend support for Verity.

Week One:
Monday 19.00-22.00
Tuesday 17.00-22.00
Thursday 8.00-13.00 (temporary cover shift) and 17.00-22.00
Saturday 17.00-22.00

Week Two:
Wednesday 17.00-22.00
Saturday 8.00-13.00 (temporary cover shift), 13.00-17.00, 17.00-22.00 (2x support workers required for this shift) & sleeping night 22.00-8.00
Sunday 8.00-17.00, 8.00-13.00 (temporary cover shift) & 13.00-18.00

Bank hours

 This is a large care team and there are always bank hours available for people to cover absences of the current team. The hours will vary from week to week. There may be weeks when shifts are available up to full time hours shift times range from 3 hours to 10+ hours and can include days, waking nights and sleeping nights.  However, if you are able to work just days, just nights or a combination of both, please do apply.

Experience required for waking night shifts (clinical care and medication administration) however experience not required for day and sleeping night shifts.

Please note shadow shifts will be arranged for daytime shifts for 2 weeks prior to working nights with Verity, then there will be shadowing for the night shifts.  These daytime shifts can be worked flexibly. 

Driving:

  • Driver required: Essential
  • Vehicle use: Will be using the family car, automatic
  • Using own vehicle for work: Yes, on duty and to attend training

Verity is in her mid-40s and lives independently in her own home with the support of a dedicated team of Support Workers who provide 24-hour care. She has an acquired brain injury and is looking for caring, reliable individuals to join her team. Verity is excited to welcome new people who can assist with her daily needs and help her continue living life to the fullest.

Verity is a vibrant individual with a great sense of humour who enjoys social activities such as quizzes, watching TV and films, and planning for special occasions like Christmas and birthdays. She loves going out to the cinema, theatre, and shopping, and has her own wheelchair-accessible vehicle for outings.  Whilst Verity does not communicate verbally, she expresses her needs and feelings through body language and facial expressions. Her family and support team play an important role in interpreting these cues to ensure her comfort and wellbeing. Verity is registered blind, so her care team describes her surroundings and activities to keep her fully engaged. Verity requires continuous support and supervision throughout the day, as well as overnight care to ensure her comfort and wellbeing.

Over the course of a day and night, the Support Workers will:
  • Provide respectful and compassionate personal care, supporting Verity with her daily routines.
  • Assist with PEG feeding and medication administration, ensuring comfort and safety at all times.
  • Deliver catheter care and maintain skin integrity through effective pressure care.
  • Provide respiratory support, including suctioning when required, in a calm and reassuring manner.
  • Support Verity in enjoying her hobbies and social activities, both at home and in the community.
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively, ensuring Verity feels understood, valued, and respected.
  • Assist with moving and handling, including safe use of hoisting equipment (full training provided).

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

If you are interested in carrying out Waking Night support on a Bank basis, previous experience is essential. You must be confident and competent in:

  • Administering medication
  • Suctioning and respiratory support
  • PEG feeding
  • Catheter care
  • Repositioning and pressure care
  • Using hoisting equipment
  • Recording and reporting observations accurately

You will be expected to work independently overnight, responding to Verity’s needs but will have support from the sleeping night worker if required.


For Day and Sleeping Night shifts, while previous experience can be helpful, it is not essential. What matters most is your willingness to learn and to carry out your role with enthusiasm, warmth, and respect. Full training will be provided to ensure you feel confident and competent in tasks such as:

  • Using specialist equipment (hoists, PEG feeding systems, suctioning devices, respiratory care equipment)
  • Supporting Verity with personal care and daily routines
  • Communicating effectively using non-verbal cues

You will be working in Verity’s own home, so it is important that you feel comfortable in this setting and remain sensitive to her needs and wishes, as well as those of her family. A naturally friendly, approachable manner and an encouraging attitude will help create a positive and supportive environment. Please note the family have 1 small dog who sleeps in the carers room.

Strong organisational skills, punctuality, patience, and reliability are qualities Verity values highly. These attributes are key to providing consistent and person-centred support.
