Location:  Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, Devon

Hours: Bank Hours available to cover 24.25 hour shifts usually from 7pm to 7:15pm (sleeping nights included)

Pay:

  • Pay Rate 1:  £16.67 per hour, Monday to Sunday, Days, 7am -11pm
  •  Pay Rate 2:  £13.78 per hour, Monday to Sunday, Sleeping Nights

Job Summary

We are recruiting an experienced Bank Support Worker to work with our client as 1:1 support, a gentleman in his 50s with an acquired brain injury, who lives in his own home in the Bovey Tracey area, near Newton Abbot..

He is largely independent with personal care; however, he requires support with problem-solving, accessing the community, maintaining his safety, and promoting his independence, emotional wellbeing, and physical health.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintaining the client's independence and daily routine by providing one-to-one support 
  • Adopting an appropriate approach as guided by the Case Manager, Team Leaders and therapists involved in our client's care
  • Promoting his well-being to achieve positive outcomes
  • Excellent communication with other team members
  • Accurate record keeping is an essential aspect of the role

About You

Essential:
  • Previous experience of working with brain injury
  • Experience of lone working.

  • Confident about working in the home environment and sensitive to the needs and wishes of our client.
  • Reliable and trustworthy with a responsible attitude.
  • Flexible and able to use own initiative.
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Full driving licence essential (endorsements to be disclosed).  Our client has his own car which the Support Worker will need to drive when supporting our client. 
  • Able and willing to undertake training in order to update existing skills and learn new skills.
  • A good sense of humour.
  • A proactive and encouraging approach.
  • Able to work as part of a team and within boundaries
  • A good communicator with the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • A good timekeeper.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect the clients and his families need for privacy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
Desirable:
  • Knowledge and experience about traumatic brain injury and mental health conditions.
  • Previous experience of working with adults with disability.
  • Completed the Care Certificate training requirements
