About The Role

Our client, a 45 year old man who was in a car accident and suffered a stroke requires a *male Buddy/Support Worker to assist him with engaging and participating in leisure activities and to provide him with support to effectively carry out his therapy programmes (including exercise programmes). He lives with his family in their home in Winnerish where his wife carries out the majority of his care. Prior to his stroke our client enjoyed a very active lifestyle, which included golf, running, and outings with both his family and with his wife. He has a kind nature and enjoys being outdoors riding his recumbent bike. The role will involve supporting our client to attend appointments, taking him out on trips and supporting and assisting him to meet his personal care needs if required.

Hourly Rate
£12.00 per hour weekdays
£13.00 per hour weekends and bank holidays

Buddy/Support Worker Role Overview

Essential

*Male – personal care required.
• *Physically fit - Even with specialist equipment in place and appropriate training, it is important that you are physically fit. A Handling Management Plan designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries may require you to bend, kneel, squat or lunge to ensure good posture during handling tasks.
• Confident about working in client’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of the wife and family.
• Flexible and able to use own initiative.
• Patient and tolerant.
• Proactive, encouraging approach.
• Responsible attitude with a good sense of humour.
• Cheerful, caring and positive attitude.
• Reliable, trustworthy and a good communicator.
• The ability to learn new skills in accordance with the client’s programme.
• Flexible - to help with the children in the family and general running of the household as and when the need arises.
• Confident with using I.T
• Water confident.
• Basic understanding of the principles of rehabilitation.
• Proactive approach to developing an appropriate range of activities.
• Willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities.
• Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect our client and their family's need for privacy.
• Aptitude and desire to work with clients with complex needs.
• Flexible with start and finish times according to the needs of our client.
• Ability to work additional hours as required.
• Able to work flexible hours, sometimes at short notice.
• Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
• Ensure consistency of approach.
• Willing to travel.
• Willing to work with animals - comfortable to be around dogs.
• Full clean driving license and able to drive the client’s vehicle.
• Non-smoker - this post operates a non-smoking environment.

Desirable
• Shares similar interests with client, such as golf, gym and bike riding.
• NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
• Experience of carrying out therapy programmes.
• Previous experience of using specialist equipment with disabled people
• Basic knowledge of therapies, such as hydrotherapy
• Knowledge and experience of traumatic brain injury would be advantageous.
• Own car – desirable

ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
