About The Role

Location: Alton, Hampshire
Days & Hours:
typical shifts can include:

  • Day Shifts (School Term Time), 4.00pm to 8.00pm, Monday to Friday
  • Day Shifts (Weekends and School Holidays), 8:30am to 8pm (these shift times may vary according to client's needs) 
  • £11 -14 per hour, depending on shift worked. 
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
  • Free DBS check.

Using Own Vehicle for work purposes?
Yes, to attend training

We are seeking Support Worker(s)/Buddy(s) for Harry, a lovely young boy, aged 13, who has neurological disabilities and epilepsy as a result of hypoxia suffered at birth. He attends a special needs school and has a Statement of Special Educational Needs, and is seeking Bank Buddy/Support Workers to help him during the day, mainly during his school holidays and at the weekends, so he can enjoy the things he likes to do.

Harry enjoys watching TV/DVDs and his favourite program is Mr. Tumble.  He really enjoys interacting with toys that elicit sound and lights when activated and playing on his swing and trampoline in his garden.   Harry verbalises through the use of sounds as he is not able to talk, with the support of his speech and language therapist he is developing his use of Eye-gaze technology to communicate.  He is doubly incontinent and fed a blended diet via a jejunostomy tube, so he needs his Buddy/Support Worker to be able to help him and ensure that all his needs are met.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person(s) to join Harry's care team, working with him in his home, to help him reach his full potential.   
In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered:

  • Regular clinical supervision/review meetings,
  • On-going support from a dedicated Case Manager and HR department
About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • *Physically fit for moving and handling purposes
  • Experience with working with Acquired Brain Injury
  • Confident and comfortable working in clients own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of him and his family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting the clients  needs
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team
  • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others
  • Actively creates an inclusive environment respecting diversity
  • Good organisational skills who can adhere to standards and quality requirements
  • Friendly, approachable with a proactive and encouraging approach
  • Experience with PEG feeding
  • Water confident to assist with hydrotherapy.
  • Punctual, patient, reliable and trustworthy
  • Can maintain an excellent level of confidentiality
  • Good verbal & written communication skills and IT literate
  • Able to think creatively and to use initiative
  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice
  • A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) 

Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.

ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
