from £10.50 weekday days, £12.00 weekday nights and weekend days and £13 weekend nights.

About The Role

Location: Fareham, Hampshire
Days & Hours: Weekdays and Weekends. Day and overnight shifts (including sleeping nights). A variety of contracted hours are available from 12 to 30 hours per week. Bank Hours are also available.

Pay: from £10.50 weekday days, £12.00 weekday nights and weekend days and £13 weekend nights.  Sleeping night rate also applies 

Driver required? Essential

Driving Clients Car? Yes, our clients automatic Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV)- and over 25 for insurance purposes
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, On duty and to attend training 

Accommodation (while on duty): Own room with toilet and tea making facilities for sleeping night shifts.

Pets: The family have 2 small dogs who live in the main part of the house (away from where care will take place)

Interviews Week Commencing: 15/07/19 (further interview dates will also be available)

Start Date: On or around 1stAugust 2019

Vanessa has a great sense of humour and has lots of hobbies and interests, including going out. Vanessa is in her early 40's and has an acquired brain injury, complex physical needs and communication difficulties.  She lives in her own home and has a team of Support Workers who provide 24-hour care.

Vanessa receives support with all aspects of daily life including hoist transfers, personal care, PEG feeding, suctioning and respiratory care and accessing the community. She requires assistance and/or supervision at all times during the day and also requires care overnight.  Vanessa cannot communicate verbally and relies on others to interpret her body language and facial expressions to identify and address her needs.  She is registered blind and her care team describe everything to her, including her environment and even what is happening on the television…whatever programme is on! The role is physically demanding and Support Workers must have a dedication to providing the best possible care for Vanessa at all times.

This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.

Pay and Benefits:

First 6 Months (probation)

  • £10.50 per hour, Monday to Friday 8.00am to 8.00pm
  • £12.00 per hour Monday to Friday 8.00pm to 8.00am (waking)
  • £12.00 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays 8.00.am to 8.00pm
  • £13.00 per hour Weekends and Bank Holidays 8.00pm to 8.00am (waking)
  • £8.21 per hour 10.00pm  - 6.30am (sleeping)

After 6 Months (upon successful completion of probation)

  • £11.00 per hour, Monday to Friday 8.00am to 8.00pm
  • £12.50 per hour Monday to Friday 8.00pm to 8.00am (waking)
  • £12.50 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays 8.00.am to 8.00pm
  • £13.50 per hour Weekends and Bank Holidays 8.00pm to 8.00am (waking)
  • £8.21 per hour 10.00pm  - 6.30am (sleeping)
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata.
  • Sickness benefit 
  • Free DBS check.

In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered:

  • Induction,
  • Relevant training opportunities (including The Care Certificate),
  • Regular clinical supervision/review meetings,
  • On-going support from a dedicated Case Manager and HR department


About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Confident about working in Vanessa's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family.
  • Able to work shifts during the day and overnight, including at least two weekend shifts per month (Saturday and/or Sunday)
  • Able to work flexible or additional hours, sometimes at short notice.
  • Full clean driving license and able to drive the client’s automatic wheelchair adapted vehicle (must be over 25 for insurance purposes)
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team
  • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others

  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills


  • Experience of working in the care sector (this is desirable but reliability, enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is more essential).
  • Experience of carrying out moving and handling.
  • Knowledge and experience of brain injury would be advantageous.
  • Willing to travel and work away from home for up to one week at a time (for example if our client wishes to go on holiday).
  • Non-smoker - this post operates in a non-smoking environment.

Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.

ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
