Support Worker (*Female) - Part-Time and Bank

Carer/Support Worker/Client Recruitment
£12.00 per hour, Monday - Friday & £14.00 Weekends and Bank Holidays.
About The Role
Location: Stroud, Gloucestershire

Days & Hours:
Part Time Hours:
  • Term Time: 10 hours -  Typically 3.30pm - 8.30pm - Monday & Friday and 1 x 12 hour shift at the weekend

Additional hours may be available as agreed with the team and family in advance. 

Bank Hours: ad hoc and variable hours to meet Ella's needs, typically 3.30 - 8.30pm weekdays and 12 hour shifts during school holidays, to cover for absence of other team members. 
Driver required: Yes, as you will be required to drive the client's car as well as your own for work purposes.
Previous experience of support young people with special needs.
Flexible i.e. with start and finish times according to the needs of Ella and her family. 
Ability to work additional hours as required
Family Pets: The family have a pet Labrador dog
Interviews to take place: The morning of 27th February 2020.
Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)

Ella, is a bright, sociable, young lady aged 18, she lives at home with her parents, two younger brothers and a Labrador dog, so it's important that you are happy to work around dogs. Ella is a very sociable young lady and enjoys the company of her family and friends, she attends a local special needs school and really enjoys after school activities such as hydrotherapy, massage and yoga, so you will need to be sociable and adaptable to help her enjoy all these and be prepared to be busy!

Ella has Cerebral Palsy affecting her whole body, and she is seeking a Support Worker to join her current team to assist her (and her parents) with all aspects of her care and to support her and her family with everyday life both at home and when she is out and about. Ella's Support Worker will need to help her with her communication difficulties, assisting her to use her communication aids, promoting her well being and her independence under the guidance of her parents and professionals who will provide advice and recommendations i.e. on positioning, feeding, exercises, etc. which needs to be followed. 

Pay and Benefits:

£12.00 per hour, Monday - Friday & £14.00 Weekends and Bank Holidays.
On-going training & support provided
5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
Free DBS check.

About You

  • Excellent communication and social skills.
  • Excellent planning skills and ability to ‘risk assess’ activities.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Confident using I.T. to support Ella.
  • Able to use own initiative and be creative.
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Ella's needs.  
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner.

  • Full driving license (endorsements to be disclosed) and able to drive the client's adapted vehicle
  • Non-smoker, this post operates in a non-smoking environment.
  • Experience of and qualifications in caring for children/adults with special needs (This is preferred but enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is desirable).
  • Experience of and qualifications in caring for children/young people with severe disabilities.
  • Experience of carrying out therapy programmes.
  • Ability to work additional hours as required, sometimes at short notice.
  • Experience of writing risk assessments and care plans.
  • Basic knowledge of therapies, such as hydrotherapy and conductive education.
  • Previous experience of hoisting and use of specialist equipment.
  • Experience of carrying out physiotherapy and/or multi-sensory programmes.
  • Experience of using switches and other specialist IT technology for severely disabled people.
  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or working towards a qualification.
  • Own car – desirable.
  • An interest in art/crafts, music and dogs.
Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

When a persons life has been changed by injury, we address the practicalities.  We work with children and adults who have had moderate or catastrophic, complex injuries.  We assess individual needs and are able to provide a comprehensive Case Management and Rehabilitation Service designed to maximise independence.
ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
