Team Leader and Bank Support Workers

About The Role

Location: Woodford Valley, North of Salisbury, Wiltshire

Days & Hours: Shifts may vary on a weekly basis, however, current Term time shifts available (approximately 23 hours per week) are:

TERM TIME (44 WEEKS PER YEAR):

Fridays:              3:00pm – 8:00pm

Saturdays:         8:00am – 8:00pm

Sundays:            Every other Sunday 8:00am – 8:00pm

These shifts can be worked in varying lengths and are changeable in conjunction with the team.

HOLIDAY TIME (8 WEEKS PER YEAR):

12 or 24 hour shifts (including sleeping nights) from 8:00am to 8:00pm or 8:00pm to 8:00am Monday to Saturday.

Pay:

Team Leader: £15.00 per hour, Monday to Friday; £15.50 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays; £NLW (£8.72), Sleeping Nights 

Support Workers: £13.00 per hour, Monday to Friday; £13.50 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays; £NLW (£8.72), Sleeping Nights 

Driver required? Essential

Driving Clients Car? Yes, our client's Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV) which is automatic

Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, on duty and to attend training 

Essential: Supporting adults with complex emotional, behavioural and attachment needs. Confident with behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. 

Desirable: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy.

Accommodation (while on duty): Good sized double bedroom with en-suite. Additional use of a sitting room which is rarely used by the family.

Theo is a sociable 21-year-old who has a great sense of humour, although he can be stubborn on occasions! Theo has Cerebral Palsy and whilst he is independent in many areas of self-help skills, he requires assistance to undertake these activities and to help him with his physical and learning disabilities. He communicates by speaking, but as this can be tricky to understand initially, he also uses his iPad and gesturing as needed.  The role will include a mixture of PEG/oral feeding, medication administration as well as supporting Theo with all his activities.  Theo can walk short distances and uses a wheelchair for longer trips.

  

Theo lives with his family north of Salisbury, and attends a specialist college during the week, so some shifts will involve driving him to and from college as well as supporting him at home and overnight.  He enjoys a range of leisure activities both in and out of his home. At home, like most young adults, he enjoys playing computer games and listening to music. 

  

Theo is looking for a Team Leader to lead his established team. In addition, he also requires bank support workers to help support him during his holiday time away from college and to cover absence of other team members during term time.

  

Team Leader:  As Theo's care Team Leader, you will be required to help Theo maximise his independence in all activities of daily living, enabling and promoting him in pursuing social outings. You will also provide companionship and to assist with any personal care as required. You will also be required to lead and co-ordinate a team of Support Workers, working with Theo to ensure that care given by the care team is of high quality, safe and effective.

The Team Leader role will suit someone who is experienced, organised, very proactive and has a 'can do attitude' as well as the ability to demonstrate they can work well with his family, the Case Manager, college, other professionals involved in Theo's team.

 

Bank Support Workers: You will be required to help Theo maximise his independence in all activities of daily living, enabling and promoting him in pursuing social outings. You will also provide companionship and be required assist with any personal care required.

Pay and Benefits:

  • 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata

Support Worker Role:
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided).
  • Experience with working with adults with disability.
  • Confident and comfortable working in Theo's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of him and his family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Theo's needs
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team

  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice
  • A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) 

In addition to the above, the Team Leader Role will require:

  • Experience of and qualifications (NVQ level 3 or equivalent) in caring for young people with severe disabilities
  • Experience of managing or leading a team
  • Experience of formulating appropriate care plans and risk assessments for clients
  • Previous experience of managing and organising the maintenance of specialist equipment for disabled people
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships, including the utilisation of the appropriate people management skills required to lead, train and support a team of support workers
  • Ability to demonstrate a 'can do attitude' and proactive approach
  • Ability to work effectvely with Theo's wider team, Case Manager and Family
  • At times, be able to pick up tasks at short notice

Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.
