Carer/Support Worker/Client Recruitment
£14 per hour, Monday - Friday and £16 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays
About The Role

Location: Cold Ash, Berkshire
Days & Hours: During Term Time, Monday - Friday - 3pm-8pm, Saturdays  - 2pm-8pm.  Hours can be covered by more than one person. Variation in hours may be discussed. 

Pay: £14 per hour, Monday - Friday and £16 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays

Driver required? Essential - a valid full UK driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) and use of own car

Driving Client's Car? Yes (when adapted vehicle purchased)

Essential: Childcare experience. 

Desirable: Experience of working with cerebral palsy, trauma and an interest in therapy.  

Interviews Week Commencing: As and when applications are received.  Following government guidelines during this uncertain time, this may be completed via video link

Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)


Vanessa is a cheerful, attentive and engaging little girl who is looking for a flexible, friendly and compassionate Support Worker/Nanny (*Female) to care for her. She is a 6-year-old girl who loves to dress up, have stories read to her, watch television and play games. She has cerebral palsy and requires some extra help with certain tasks to help her enjoy doing all the things that she loves. Sometimes Vanessa struggles to wind down in the evening and finds having a repetitive routine helps her to relax, this includes story reading.

Vanessa is an academically bright child with lots of interests but can find manual dexterity issues challenging such as drawing, writing and using a knife and fork. Vanessa also needs help with assisting with her personal care routine and assisting with meals. Vanessa is mobile; although prone to trips and falls, so she requires assistance and supervision when walking indoors and outside due to this and her frequent fatigue issues. She uses a buggy for most outdoor mobility.

As well as assisting Vanessa with her personal care, increasing her opportunities for play and learning and supporting her with her schoolwork as needed, Vanessa has a package of therapeutic care including physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The Support Worker/Nanny will be actively involved in implementing strategies/following therapy programmes devised by the therapists following training.

Vanessa's family like to be active and enjoy day trips out on their weekends which Vanessa loves to join in on. Attendance at outings will be required to support Vanessa to access all her interests so it is important you are a car driver and have a car available for business use. The Support Worker/Nanny will receive business mileage.

Pay and Benefits:

£14 per hour, Monday - Friday and £16 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays

On-going training & support provided

5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata

In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered:

  • Induction,

  • Relevant training opportunities (including The Care Certificate),

  • Regular clinical supervision/review meetings,

  • On-going support from a dedicated Case Manager and HR department

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours: 

  • *Female - personal care required.
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.

  • Experience of working with Cerebral Palsy is desirable

  • Experience in a support/enabling role in a community setting opposed to solely care work.

  • A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) and use of your own car is essential in order to transport Vanessa and knowledge of the local area is preferable. 

  • Confident about working in the home environment and sensitive to the needs and wishes of Vanessa and her family.

  • The ability to learn new skills in accordance with the Client’s programme – hoisting, wheelchair use, personal care routine etc. Training will be given.

  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner.

  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team.

  • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others.

  • Good organisational skills who can adhere to standards and quality requirements.

  • Friendly, approachable with a proactive and encouraging approach to developing a range of appropriate activities.

  • Flexible and able to use own initiative.

  • Punctual, patient, reliable and trustworthy.

  • Can maintain an excellent level of confidentiality.

  • Good verbal & written communication skills and IT literate.

  • Able to think creatively and to use initiative.

  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice.

  • Basic understanding of the principles of rehabilitation.

  • Good sense of humour.

  • Willing to travel.

  • Willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities


Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.

ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
