Carer/Support Worker/Client Recruitment
£10.50 per hour weekday days and £12.00 per hour Weekend days and Bank Holidays
About The Role

Location: Fareham, Hampshire


Days & Hours: Bank shifts available including a combination of Day and Sleeping Night shifts including weekends to cover team's annual leave and sickness. 

Typical night shifts are 9.45pm - 8.15am (this includes a 15 minute hand over period), Day shifts are between 8am and 10pm, with a mixture of hours can be 5 or 10 hour shifts or full days but worked in accordance with the rota.


Pay: £10.50 per hour - Weekday days, £12.00 per hour - Weekend and Bank Holiday Days. Sleeping night rate paid at National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage per hour dependent on successful candidate's age (please see below)

Driving Client's Car? No
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Desirable, On duty and to attend training 
Accommodation (while on duty): Own room with toilet and tea making facilities for sleeping night shifts.
Pets: The family have 2 small dogs who live in the main part of the house (away from where care will take place)
Interviews to be held: As and when applications are received.  Following government guidelines during this uncertain time, this may be completed via video link
Start Date: ASAP 

Vanessa has a great sense of humour and has lots of hobbies and interests, including going out. Vanessa is in her early 40's and has an acquired brain injury, complex physical needs and communication difficulties.  She lives in her own home and has a team of Support Workers who provide 24-hour care.  

Vanessa receives support with all aspects of daily life including hoist transfers, personal care, PEG feeding, suctioning and respiratory care and accessing the community. She requires assistance and/or supervision at all times during the day and also requires care overnight.  Vanessa cannot communicate verbally and relies on others to interpret her body language and facial expressions to identify and address her needs.  She is registered blind and her care team describe everything to her, including her environment and even what is happening on the television…whatever programme is on! The role is physically demanding and Support Workers must have a dedication to providing the best possible care for Vanessa at all times.

This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.

Pay and Benefits:

  • £10.50 per hour, Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 8.00pm
  • £12.00 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays, 8.00.am to 8.00pm, Monday - Friday Waking Nights 8.00pm - 8.00am
  • £13.00 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holiday Waking Night 8.00pm - 8.00am
  • National Minimum Wage (currently £8.20 per hour for age 21 - 24)/National Living Wage (currently £8.72 per hour for age 25 and above), Monday - Sunday, 10.00pm to 7:00am (Sleeping Nights)
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata.
  • Free DBS check.

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Confident about working in Vanessa's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family.
  • Able to work shifts during the day and overnight, including weekend work
  • Able to work flexible or additional hours, sometimes at short notice.
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner

  • Full driving license (endorsements to be disclosed)
  • Experience of working in the care sector (this is desirable but reliability, enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is more essential).
  • Experience of carrying out moving and handling.
  • Knowledge and experience of brain injury would be advantageous.
  • Willing to travel and work away from home for up to one week at a time (for example if our client wishes to go on holiday).
  • Non-smoker - this post operates in a non-smoking environment.

Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.

ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
