Support Worker - Part time

About The Role
Location: Berkshire, RG42
Days & Hours: 1 evening a week from 16:00 - 18:00 or 18:00 - 20:00 and 3 Saturday's a month from 10:00 - 18:00.  Flexibility with hours and days is required.
Pay: £15.00 per hour
Driver required?  Desirable
Driving Clients Car? Yes, our client's manual car 
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, On duty and to attend trainings 
Essential: Supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs. Confident with behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. 
Desirable: Experience working with young people with Autism and an interest in therapy
Family Pets: 1 dog
Accommodation (while on duty):  Use of an office which is used rarely by the family.
Interviews Week Commencing: 14th or 21st September 2020
Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)
 
Felix is 14 and has an engaging personality.  He loves trains, public transport, washing machines and talking with 'Alexa'.  He enjoys Swimming, Theatre, Bowling and going out for trips on a train. 
 
Felix has Epilepsy, Autism and Learning Difficulties and you will be part of a small care team to ensure that he receives all the care he requires. Supporting him to ensure he stays safe during activities both inside the home and within the local community.  He requires assistance with his daily routines and personal care needs. The role will include a mixture carrying out Felix's therapy programmes, carrying out fun and engaging leisure activities with him, supporting him with self care activities and managing his bedtime routine. 

This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.  Ideally you will be water confident as Felix enjoys swimming, and this is a great physio activity.  This is a wonderful opportunity to join a supportive family and care team where you can make a real difference to Felix's life by maximising his opportunities and promoting his independence wherever possible.

Pay and Benefits:
£15 per hour, Monday to Sunday.
On-going training & support provided
5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
Free DBS check.
 
In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered:

About You

  • Experience with working with young people with Autism and challenging behaviour
  • Confident and comfortable working in Felix’s own home and sensitive to his needs and wishes and those of his family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Felix's needs

  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team

  • Able to think creatively and to use initiative
  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice
  • Non smoker (as this role operates in a non-smoking environment)
  • A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) 

Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.

ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
