Support Worker - Part-time (Afternoons) term time only

About The Role

Location: Wilmslow, Cheshire

Days & Hours:
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 2.00pm – 7.00pm (15 hours in total per week) term time only. Additional hours may be available according to Brooke's needs and will be agreed in advance.

Pay:
£13.00 per hour Weekdays 
£14.00 per hour Weekends and Bank Holidays

Driver required? 
Essential, will use own vehicle and require business use.  Mileage will be paid.

Desirable:
Experience working with children with Cerebral Palsy and an interest in therapy

ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks), with the view to attending a meet and greet beforehand

Brooke is very active and born in 2010, who has cerebral palsy affecting their limbs.  They are mobile and very active, enjoying a number of leisure activities such as cycling, swimming, skiing and the outdoors.  They are able to communicate verbally but does have some augmentative aids for their speech if required.  Brooke requires assistance with some tasks such as eating and cycling.  They have a very supportive family and attends a local mainstream primary school and has a lovely circle of friends that they have known for a number of years.

Brooke is looking for someone to help maximise their independence.  You will need to have lots of drive and energy to proactively help them with their time after school and engage them in their leisure activities that they enjoy.   Brooke also needs help with general tasks and homework and may need assistance with any personal care if required.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to develop their existing skills and support this very special little child. A truly rewarding role which will develop as Brooke's needs change.  
 
Pay and Benefits:
£13.00 - £14.00 per hour depending on shift worked
On-going training & support provided
5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
Sick leave entitlement
Free DBS check.
 
In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered:

About You

It would be great to receive your application if you have the following skills/behaviours:
Essential
Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of                handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
Experience of working with, or aptitude and desire to work with, children with special needs. 
Confident and comfortable working in Brooke's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of their family.
Flexible - to help with general running of the household as and when the need arises.
Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Brooke's needs.
Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner.
A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team.

Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice.
Happy to learn new things in accordance with Brooke's programme. Training will be given.
Proactive approach to developing an appropriate range of activities.
Willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities.
Water confident.
Willing to travel.
A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) - and insurance for business use.
Non-Smoker – this post operates in a non-smoking environment. 

Desirable
Experience of working with children with Cerebral Palsy.
Experience of and qualifications in caring for children with severe disabilities.
Experience of carrying out therapy programmes.
Ability to work additional hours as required.
Able to work flexible hours, sometimes at short notice.
Previous experience of using specialist equipment with disabled people.
Experience of preparing and understanding risk assessments and care plans.
Basic knowledge of therapies, such as hydrotherapy and conductive education.
Experience of carrying out physiotherapy and/or multi-sensory programmes.
Experience of using switches and other specialist IT technology for disabled people. 

Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required
This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed

When a persons life has been changed by injury, we address the practicalities.  We work with children and adults who have had moderate or catastrophic, complex injuries.  We assess individual needs and are able to provide a comprehensive Case Management and Rehabilitation Service designed to maximise independence.
 
ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
