About The Role

Location: Park Gate, Southampton
Days & Hours:

Term Time:

Mondays - 7:00am - 11.00am

Fridays - 2:30pm - 10:00pm

Saturdays - 10:00am - 10:00pm

Holiday Time:

Mondays - Friday, typical shift would be working between the hours of 7:00am - 10:00pm

Saturdays - 10:00am - 10:00pm

Additional hours may also be available at weekends, in school holidays and to cover the sickness and annual leave of other members of the team.

Bank hours: Flexible hours available to meet the Julian's needs

Pay: Weekdays £10.00 per hour Weekdays, £11.00 hour Weekends and £11.50 Bank Holidays

Yes, Julian's Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV), manual - confident driver

Using Own Vehicle for work purposes?
No, you may need use of a car to get to work and to attend training
Essential Experience:
Confident working in a family home
Experience working with children/young adult with trauma and an interest in therapy - PEG feeding
Cats but dogs are always in the family home
Accommodation (while on duty):
 Purpose built family home to meet Julian's needs, which includes carers accommodation (bedroom/bathroom/kitchenette).

Julian aged 17, is a lovely and happy young man with a cheeky sense of humour.  He enjoys playing within his home which is equipped with a ‘multi sensory’ room and other specialist play equipment. However, he also likes to be out and about and enjoys his weekly hydrotherapy session in Southampton in school holidays. He particularly loves his bath times!  Julian attends a local special needs college full time (during term time).

Julian has complex needs and learning difficulties. He has cerebral palsy, epilepsy and is non-verbal and visually impaired.  All his medication and fluids are administered via PEG.  Julian requires two to one care and has a dedicated team in place.  Julian lives in a fully adapted house with his mother, step-father and younger sibling and family pets.  He needs help with all aspects of daily living.

This is an excellent opportunity for dedicated people to join an established home care team and develop existing skills and support this very special young man, this is a truly rewarding role with the opportunity to make a real difference to this young man's life.

Pay and Benefits:

£10.00 per hour Weekdays and £11.00 per hour Weekends, £11.50 Bank holidays

On-going training & support provided

5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata

Sick leave entitlement

Free DBS check.

In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will beoffered:

  • Induction,
  • Relevant training opportunities (including The Care Certificate),
  • Regular clinical supervision/review meetings,
  • On-going support from a dedicated Case Manager/Team Administrator and HR department
About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with Acquired Brain Injury
  • Confident and comfortable working in Julian’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of him and his family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Julian's needs
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team
  • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others
  • Actively creates an inclusive environment respecting diversity
  • Good organisational skills who can adhere to standards and quality requirements
  • Friendly, approachable with a proactive and encouraging approach
  • Experience with PEG feeding
  • Water confident to assist with hydrotherapy
  • Punctual, patient, reliable and trustworthy
  • Can maintain an excellent level of confidentiality
  • Good verbal & written communication skills and IT literate
  • Able to think creatively and to use initiative
  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice
  • A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) 

Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.

When a persons life has been changed by injury, we address the practicalities.  We work with children and adults who have had moderate or catastrophic, complex injuries.  We assess individual needs and are able to provide a comprehensive Case Management and Rehabilitation Service designed to maximise independence.
ILS recruit on behalf of their clients and therefore, if you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
