About The Role

Location: Thatcham, Berkshire
Days & Hours:
Monday – Friday 7.30am – 9am and 3.30pm – 6.30pm – Term time only (these hours can be worked by more than one person) 
£11.50 per hour

Using Own Vehicle for work purposes?
Yes, On duty and to attend trainings
Essential Experience:
Experience of working with anxiety difficulties
Experience working with children and an interest in therapy
1 dog, and 1 cat
Accommodation (while on duty):
Fully adapted family home.

Mollie aged 13 is a bright and friendly girl, who particularly enjoys music and horse riding. She has a young dog who is learning to be a support animal for her. She is independently mobile but uses an off-road wheelchair for long walks and a mobility scooter for outings into town, shopping etc.

Mollie has Cerebral Palsy which causes tremors through her body which impact her fine motor skills.  She can get very anxious at times especially when she is feeling fatigued, hurried or in unfamiliar situations, so a happy and relaxed atmosphere with patience and consistency from the Support Worker is key. She currently receives physiotherapy and occupational therapy and there may be ways of working that the Support Worker will be involved in overseeing and using with Mollie.

Your role will be to support Mollie to get ready and to drive her to school in the mornings and pick up in the afternoons. She would require help with grooming tasks, checking she is organised and familiar with homework that has been set for her, encouraging her to complete her physiotherapy tasks and generally being around for her. It will also include some household duties including meal preparation. A flexible approach to fit with Mollie and her family will be needed.

Pay and Benefits:
£11.50 per hour

In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered:

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • *Female due to providing some personal care
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with Cerebral Palsy
  • Confident and comfortable working in Mollie’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Mollie's needs
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team
  • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others
  • Actively creates an inclusive environment respecting diversity
  • Life skills experience regarding daily household and meal preparation tasks.
  • Good organisational skills who can adhere to standards and quality requirements

  • Can maintain an excellent level of confidentiality
  • Good verbal & written communication skills and IT literate
  • Able to think creatively and to use initiative
  • Willingness to work flexibly and cover shifts, sometimes at short notice
  • A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) and able to drive the client's automatic vehicle
  • Non-smoker 

Satisfactory references & proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.

If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
