About The Role

Location: Salisbury
Days & Hours:
10 hours per week, days of work can be flexible and will include some weekday afternoons on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings.  There is potential for additional hours in holiday time and as the role with our client develops.

Basic understanding of rehabilitation

Experience working with adults with spinal cord injury and an interest in therapy

Our client, aged 19 enjoys horses, animals and baking and is keen to develop her hobbies in the local Salisbury area.  She attends college 5 days per week.  She really enjoyed attending her weekly youth club and is re-exploring this opportunity along with the excitement of exploring new activities.

Our client has a tetraplegic spinal cord injury and uses a manual wheelchair for her mobility needs and transfers with assistance and has a wheelchair accessible vehicle. She is looking to gain confidence in using public transport and developing her interests and hobbies in the local area. 

Our client developed epilepsy which is being managed and she can tire very easily. 

This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role, to support our client with her personal care needs and to increase her confidence in her own abilities and independence and helping to implement any therapy programmes to continue in her rehabilitation along with taking direction from the Case Manager, Therapists and parents to ensure our client receives all the care she needs.

About You

It would be great to receive your application if you have the following skills/behaviours:
*Female due to providing personal care
Aptitude and desire to work with young adults with disabilities.
Basic understanding of the principles of rehabilitation.
Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
Confident and comfortable working in client’s own home and sensitive to her needs and wishes and those of her family.
Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting our Client’s needs.
Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner.
Able to maintain an excellent level of confidentiality and to respect our client and her family's need for privacy.
Confident in supporting the Client in accessing the wider community.
Happy to learn new things in accordance with the Client’s programme e.g. hoisting, personal care routine etc.  Training will be given.

Full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) and able to drive the client’s adapted vehicle.

If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
