5 hours per week to be worked at the weekend during term time and 10 hours per week during holiday time, to include an evening and a weekend day

Deborah aged 20, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when she was a baby. She lives at home with her parents and siblings and very much enjoys spending time with her family. Deborah also attends college during the week.  She enjoys craftwork, cooking, reading magazines and spending time on her iPad.  Deborah also likes to go shopping for clothes and books, as well as going out to the theatre and bowling but needs assistance to access these activities.  She can mobilise within the family home but uses an electric wheelchair when accessing the community.  When caring for Deborah she will require some assistance with personal care and careful supervision when out and about. 

Deborah is looking for a Support Worker to provide care for a 5 hour shift on a weekend day once a week.  During School Holidays, the Support Worker will provide an additional 5 hour shift during the week. 

You will be taking direction from the client’s parents and Case Manager to ensure that Deborah receives all the care she needs. This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.  This is a wonderful opportunity where you can make a real difference to Deborah’s life by maximising her opportunities and promoting her independence wherever possible; a truly rewarding role for someone who is able to communicate effectively and an ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion.

Pay and Benefits:

About You

  • *Female due to providing personal care
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with Cerebral Palsy
  • Confident and comfortable working in Deborah’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Deborah's needs
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team

  • Willing to travel and accompany Deborah and her family on holiday. To have the confidence and experience to assist the Deborah in her wheelchair taking into consideration unfamiliar territory. To be familiar with passenger assistance at the airport if travelling by plane.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with adults with special needs (this is preferred but enthusiasm, patience, and willingness to learn is desirable).
  • Previous experience of using specialist equipment with disabled people
  • Basic knowledge of hydrotherapy.
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a health care topic
