About The Role

Location: Cwmbran, Torfaen, Wales
Days & Hours:
36.75 hours in accordance with the rota covering a mixture of day, sleeping night and waking night shifts.

Bank hours available in accordance with Carl's rota (a mixture of day, sleeping night and waking night shifts).  Shifts are from 8.00am to 8.15pm and from 8.00pm to 8.15am. Additional hours are also available to cover for team absences (annual leave and sickness).

Pay: Weekdays: £11.33 per hour / Weekends and Bank Holidays: £12.36 per hour / Sleeping Nights: £8.98 per hour

Carl born in 1945, is a cheerful gentleman with a great sense of humour.  He enjoys spending time with others including his family who are very loving and involved in his life. Carl enjoys going out into the community, watching horse and bike racing and loves slapstick humour. He likes reading the newspaper to keep up to date on current affairs and bird watching in the garden in his home.

Carl has an acquired brain injury as a result of a road traffic accident in 2014, which has affected his mobility, communication and cognition. Carl uses a wheelchair and has non-verbal communication where he uses smiles, expressions and body language to communicate his feelings. Carl lives in a property with his family which has been adapted for his needs and requires 2:1 support with all aspects of his care.

You will be joining an established, dedicated care team where you will be taking direction from the Team Leader and Case Manager to ensure that Carl receives all the care he needs. As well as carrying out his daily care routine, you will be implementing rehabilitation plans put in place by his multidisciplinary team and providing Carl with opportunities to engage in activities and access the community. This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.

About You
It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
Experience with working with Acquired Brain Injury
Confident and comfortable working in Carl’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of him and his family
Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Carl's needs
Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team

A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) and able to drive Carl's adapted vehicle (semi-automatic)

If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
