About The Role
Location: Portland, Dorset
Days & Hours: 
10 hours per week - Days will be weekdays, 10 hours split across 3 or more days. This will be planned in advance with Case Manager and the client.
Pay: £12.00 per hour Monday - Friday
Driver required? Essential, would require business insurance (mileage will be paid)
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, On duty and to attend trainings 
Essential: Supporting adults with a disability and with reduced motivation
Desirable: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy
Family Pets: 1 dog 
Interviews Week Commencing:  As and when applications are received
Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)
 
Michael, born in 1977, and lives with his fiancé and two children.   Michael loves old bangers and has been known to buy and sell them frequently! He loves tinkering with old cars and in the past, he enjoyed horse riding.

Michael has Achondroplasia, which he has had from birth and an Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury. He finds that he has reduced mobility, stamina and is unable to climb stairs.  He also has reduced motivation, initiation and needs support at times to reason through decisions that need to be made. He finds it difficult to establish a routine and get out of his property on a regular basis. He would like to get involved in hobbies and leisure of his choice at home and in the community and feel more independent.

Michael is looking for an experienced buddy to support him in developing his ability to get out of his property, become involved in hobbies and leisure activities of his choice, feel more active and have assistance and support in managing paperwork and becoming more organized.  This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.  This role will be for a 6-month fixed term contract,

Pay and Benefits:
£12 per hour Monday - Friday
On-going training & support provided.
5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
Sick leave entitlement

About You

It would be great to receive your application if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with individuals who have difficulties with motivation and initiation.
  • Experience of working with disability.
  • Confident and comfortable working in Michael’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of him and his family.
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Michael's needs

If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.  However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role.  Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
