About The Role

Location: Near Newton Abbott TQ13
Days & Hours:  5 hours, approximately 10am to 3pm, once a week. Potential for increase in hours    
Pay: £10.00 - £13.00 per hour, Monday to Sunday, dependent on experience
Driver required? Essential
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, On duty and to attend trainings, business insurance will be required and a mileage allowance will be paid
Essential: Supporting adults with Brain injury, physical and emotional needs.  Physically fit to support with transfers and an Attendant propelled Wheel chair.
Desirable: Experience working with adults with epilepsy
Interviews Week Commencing: 10th May
Start Date: 7th June 2021 (subject to satisfactory employment checks)

Sarah aged 51 is very young at heart.  She lives with her husband, enjoys shopping and a good chat. Sarah has an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), which has mainly affected her mobility along with some cognitive functions.

Sarah would like support with some aspects of her personal care including styling her hair and applying make-up as well as support to go out socially.  The role will include supporting Sarah with her epilepsy and dispensing emergency medication as appropriate.

This job will suit someone who is lively and fun but also calm when needed, a good listener who is non-judgemental, proactive and able to stimulate ideas and discussion and be able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.  You will also need to be able to work with specialist equipment, you will need to be able to support Sarah with her mobility, as well as lifting her wheelchair in and out of a car and using an attendant propelled wheelchair

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • *Female due to providing personal care
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with Acquired Brain Injury
  • Confident and comfortable working in Sarah’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Sarah's needs
  • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner
  • Able to work alone and a team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team
