About The Role

Location: Aldershot
Days & Hours: 7am – 11pm for support through day and evening Monday to Sunday. The shifts will be 8 hours from 7-3pm and 3-11pm.  Various hours either full time or part time.  Team Leader position available 36 hours per week, pay rate to be agreed dependent on experience.
Pay: Support Workers: £11 per hour Weekdays, £12.50 Weekends and Bank Holidays.  Team Leader: £14.00 per hour dependent on experience
Driver Essential
Driving Clients Car? Yes, our clients Adapted Vehicle (WAV), automatic
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, On duty and to attend trainings 
Essential: Supporting adults with stroke and aphasia.
Desirable: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy
Interviews Week Commencing:  As applications are received.  These may be held using video calling
Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)

Brenda is in her 70’s and enjoys going out and socialising.  She has 2 children and as a family they are very close and important to her.  Brenda enjoys having her nails done at a salon and is keen to return to this with support along with attending concerts of her favourite singers and the cinema.  She can independently read the daily newspaper that is delivered to the home.  She has a group of friends she would meet for Saturday breakfast and when restrictions are lifted would like to start this up again.

Brenda suffered a stroke and has since required assistance with many aspects of her personal care.  She has aphasia which causes her difficulty in communicating but she fully understands what is said to her and engages well in conversation.  She uses a wheeled Zimmer frame to mobilise indoors and a propelled wheelchair for outdoor use.  She has full movement and strength in her left arm and hand.  Brenda can feed herself but does need to take her time to avoid choking.  Barbara can become fatigued if concentrating for too long on a task and can become frustrated when she is unable to articulate her needs.

You will be joining a small care team where you will be taking direction from the Case Manager, husband, and therapists to ensure that Brenda receives all the care she needs. She will require full assistance with her daily routines and all of her personal care needs as well as out and about within the community.

This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role and has an interest in therapy to implement strategies and follow therapy programmes devised by the therapists to assist Brenda to develop her independence, a truly rewarding role for someone who is able to communicate effectively and an ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion.

Pay and Benefits:
£11 per hour Weekdays, £12.50 Weekends and Bank Holidays
On-going training & support provided
5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
Free DBS check.

About You

It would be great to receive your application, if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • *Female due to providing personal care
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with stroke and aphasia
  • Confident and comfortable working in Brenda’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her husband
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Brenda's needs
